We are looking for a Senior Database Administrator to join our Product Technology team in Chennai

Bright-River provides Visual Content services to the larger e-commerce and retail companies around the world. Our 2D and CGI visual experts deliver product visual content daily using our in-house developed platform and applications. Our Business Technology team is a dedicated team of engineers and developers working on our application stack and platform. We are spread across our offices in Chennai, Netherlands, New York and Bangladesh.


We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Database Administrator to join our technology team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with both traditional private data center databases and modern cloud database management. This role involves defining, deploying, and managing database solutions that support our critical business operations. The candidate should possess a deep understanding of database architecture, performance tuning, security, and scalability in both on-premises and Azure cloud environments.

Technical and Professional Expertise:

  • Proven experience managing databases in both private data centers and cloud environments.
  • Strong understanding of database design, security, performance tuning, maintenance, and management.
  • Experience with database migration, backup, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as a Database Administrator or in a similar role.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with teams across the organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (preferred).
  • Relevant certifications in database administration and cloud platforms are highly valued, with Azure preferred.
  • Fluent in English

Job requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Database Management and Operations:
    • Ensure the integrity, availability, and performance of databases in both private data centers and cloud platforms.
    • Implement and administer MS SQL Server 2008-2019 databases in support of in-house developed and vendor applications.
    • Implement and maintain database security measures, including access controls and vulnerability assessments.
    • Monitor database performance, conduct regular performance tuning, and optimize SQL queries to enhance efficiency.
    • Plan and execute database backup and recovery strategies, ensuring data is secure and recoverable in case of disaster.
  • Cloud Database Management:
    • Define and deploy non-relational database solutions on cloud platforms, aligning with best practices for scalability and high availability. Azure experience a plus.
    • Migrate databases from on-premises environments to the cloud, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity.
    • Manage and monitor cloud database services, including cost optimization, performance tuning, and security compliance.
  • Data Modelling and Architecture:
    • Collaborate with development teams to design and implement database schema's and data models that support application requirements.
    • Advise on the selection of database technologies and architectures for new projects, considering both current and future scalability and performance needs.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Work closely with IT operations, software development, and cyber security teams to ensure database environments align with overall IT strategy and compliance requirements.
    • Provide technical guidance and support to developers in database usage, query optimization, and best practices.
